The week beginning the 17th June was Refugee week, and we were delighted to welcome back the company Kazzum to run an assembly, and workshops for our English Ambassadors in Years 8-10. These were thought-provoking, designed to encourage students to explore the plight, and also the contribution of refugees to our society. Students were educated about the difference between having refugee status or being an asylum seeker, and about common misconceptions perpetuated by the media.
Through creative writing they then explored ideas about the journey taken by an asylum seeker, and what it is like when they arrive in their new country.
Students were thoughtful and engaged throughout by this important topic, and have created some lovely work which will be displayed in the English classrooms.
