This year’s cycle of national mathematics competitions has ended with further impressive performances from Olavians in Years 7 and 8.
Junior Mathematical Olympiad
The ten Olavians who qualified for this prestigious follow-on round all managed to solve at least two of the six demanding and unusual problems. The outstanding results were achieved by Benjamin Joshua Yip, Kanishq Manocha and Joshua Mead of Year 8 who achieved certificates of distinction plus a bronze medal placing then in the top 200 in the country..
Junior Kangaroo Mathematical Challenge
Of the remarkable 63 students from Years 7 and 8 who sat this year’s Kangaroo, an encouraging 21 achieved certificates of merit placing them in the top quarter of results. The best-in-year results were achieved by Yong Wang of Year 7 and James Carrick-Lawson from Year 8.
As ever, these results accurately reflect how Olavians continue to thrive upon the challenges of problem-solving at the highest levels.
