This term has been hugely successful for the Fives teams as they have remained undefeated across all age groups in school fixtures. Impressive wins have been notched up against Eton, Harrow and Westminster amongst others, with great strength in depth being displayed throughout the team. Positive results have been seen in the various tournaments this term, with Vish Shetty and Josh Hutko victorious in the Festival section of the Midland’s Adult Tournament amidst strong competition; whilst Tom Gallagher teamed up with coach Howard Wiseman to reach the final of the Main competition – a fantastic achievement for an U16 player! Links between the school players and the Old Olavians have been further strengthened on court this year, with victory in the Richard Barber Cup, a three-pair old boy-schoolboy competition as Kieran Walton, Tom Gallagher and Charlie Stocks were successful against Highgate, Shrewsbury and Ipswich to bring the title back to St. Olave’s for a fourth consecutive year. Further triumph came this term in the form of the Graham Turnbull trophy, another old boy-schoolboy tournament as Tom Gallagher and Old Olavian James Toop were able to come back from a set down in the final to narrowly overcome Captain Josh Ravi and Old Olavian Seb Cooley, in a match which drew great praise from the spectating crowd. Membership has grown throughout the school, particularly amongst the Lower Sixth as an influx of Year 12 Ladies to the team has seen an inaugural inter-year tournament take place. The efforts of the entire team have laid strong foundations for the coming term and the end-of-season Nationals.
