St. Olaves's two VEX robotics teams, The Machines and The Smooth Operators attended their first regional competition of the year, taking part in a number of qualifying matches to select their alliances and compete in the finals. Both teams utilised successful designs and reflected on their performance throughout the morning to undertake ongoing maintenance and design changes to ensure they scored highly. Having achieved second place in the morning matches The Machines were able to select a complementary robot and team to work with in the finals and reached the final match of the day, securing their place in the Nationals in March. With two more regional finals to attend The Smooth Operators have a lot to reflect on and improve to ensure they secure their places at the national finals.
Meanwhile, the VEX robotics club started for Y7 and Y8 this week, with both year groups building Clawbots to compete in an inter house competition later in the term.
