On Wednesday evening St Olave’s had the pleasure of hosting the Regional Final of the Bromley Year 9 Speak up, Speak Out! Competition in the splendid setting of The Great Hall. Eighteen finalists from eight local schools delivered superb speeches on diverse topics ranging from dementia to being a writer to the impact of social media. The Master of Ceremonies was last year’s winner, our own Year 10, Amro Fadel, who managed the evening with great charisma and aplomb. Polished musical performances from Hugo Maughan and Molly Swift, and William Song, complemented the public speaking brilliantly. The quality of speakers was exceptionally high, and our Olavian finalists - Stanley and Amaan - rose to the occasion wonderfully. After a nervous wait for results, we were delighted with a home win, as Amaan took 1st place, having entertained the audience with his witty account of the perils and pitfalls of asking someone out. Congratulations to Amaan, who received his trophy from Deputy Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Hannah Gray, and to all involved.
