10 March - Gender Cross Curricular Day

Year 9 students had a chance to participate in a Gender Cross Curricular Day on the 27th February this year, in preparation for International Women's Day on the 8th March. The students took part in lessons which aimed to draw attention to gender and inequality, and to raise awareness amongst the cohort. In Science students examined what gender is, in Geography students looked at current issues like domestic violence in Russia and FGM and in other subjects they examined the classical and historical roles of women, how women are presented in literature, as well as influential women in Mathematics. Feedback for the day was overwhelmingly positive, with students feeling engaged and recommending the day take place into the future. A summative piece of work was produced by all students for IWD, either a speech, poster or video, with the best work being awarded a £20 Amazon gift card and £10 for the runner up. Joshua Williams-Ward, wrote some fantastic poems for the runner up prize and Joseph Barradell and Ansh Batura, won the main prize for their brilliant video entry which you can watch following this link:  https://youtu.be/KcKSFDiI1tk
