"Antithesis" - This oil on canvas A-Level piece was recently completed by this immensly talented Sixth Form artist Matthew Herriot.
"As with my painting ‘Vision 1’, I continued to explore the benefits and constraints of derivative artwork. Often, it can limit you to a set number of photographs and perspectives to work from, yet it can also give you the freedom to illustrate unique subjects that you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to meet. This is further echoed within the message of ‘Antithesis’. The Iranian migrant has sewn his mouth shut to protest against being denied access to Macedonia; a self-harming act of constraint, which inhibits freedom, in an effort to achieve future liberation."
