Our Plinth Project is inspired by Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth and following on from the success of previous 'Olavian Plinths' Year 12 art students were asked to respond to this space; whether this be to the colour, the activity associated with it or the memories it holds. Each student's piece is displayed for one week and then, at the end of the series of 18, the Department will decide on which artwork will stay permanently.
This week's Plynth Project installation is a brilliant Oil on Canvas piece of artwork by Yr 12 Mehar Bijral entitled 'Modernise'. This unique piece depicts an African American man with orange and blue fluorescent paint which juxtaposes the skin tone. This allows the piece to perfectly fit into this space as it is a representation of the stained glass windows within the chapel. The eyes should capture the viewer as they view the piece through their emerald effect.
