Way of life around a town can vary hugely, and this was the theory the year 10 geographers were testing on their recent fieldtrip. We planned to go to 8 different sites around Orpington to study the pedestrian volume, the environmental quality of the differing areas, and to complete questionnaires about the types of services people make use of and what they go into the town centre for. Due to the cold and rain, there weren’t many people about, but we could clearly see a difference in the housing types and the environments people live in. Although Orpington can appear quite homogenous to the untrained eye, the geographers were able to conclude that way of life certainly differs around this suburban town. Upon return we have been writing up our results adding to it with our own secondary data research.
