Following last year's cancelled tours it was with some relief that the Year 8 and 9 rugby squads boarded the coach to Bristol for their rugby tour during half term. Both squads played their first fixtures after the coach journey with the Year 8 team taking on Ding's Crusaders and the Year 9 playing Chippenham RFC; both matches were played under floodlights - a new experience for many.
The Year 8 team lost by 31-17, but can be pleased with their performance against a physically strong team. The Year 9 team also lost narrowly, 24-17 and again many lessons were learned. Saturday saw the squads play a round of adventure golf before settling in to watch Bath play Toulouse in the European Cup. Despite the Olavian squad forming the Guard of Honour for the match we were unable to inpsire the Bath team who lost narrowly. That evening we went ten-pin bowling before going back to the hotel to prepare for our last match.
North Bristol RFC were the opponents for both teams. The U13 and the U14 squads both improved dramatically, with the former winning 74-0 and the latter by a margin of 47-0. The running rugby, improved rucking and intimidating line-speed in defence were a tribute to both teams. Hopefully they can now take these skills forward into the remainder of the season.
