On Wednesday 22nd October the newly formed Year 11 Netball Team travelled to Newstead Wood to challenge their Year 11 girls to a charity netball match, organised by Niall Johal of Year 11, to raise money for "United Through Sport". The following is his report: After two solid training sessions we thought we were in with a shot of winning however reality hit home quickly after we realised we weren't too sure about all the rules. This was evident after we had been penalised for footwork before the game had even started. After a half that wasn't our finest (we were penalised again and again for footwork and obstruction) we were trailing 6-1. After a change in tactics and talk from our inspirational coaches we started the second half with the intention of being less serious and to have some more fun so we started to use our height advantage and quick passing more which resulted in a decent quarter with the scoreline 9-4 to Newstead. In the final quarter we stepped our game up and with our great defence allowing the attack to create chances we gave Newstead a run for their money with the match ending a close 12-10 to Newstead. We raised £189.90 for United Through Sport which provides and uses sport to educate people in South America, Asia and Africa. Well played to both teams and thank you Mrs Dunlop and Mrs Beard for coaching us.
