10 May - Public Speaking workshop at Chartwell

Teams from Years 10 and 12 travelled to Chartwell, Winston Churchill’s family home in Westerham, for an instructive workshop as preparation for a public speaking competition in June. Chris Jaffrey, a political speech writer and teacher, shared his wisdom with the five schools who are competing this year and Caroline Clark, from the Speakers Trust, coached the teams on how to deliver a stand out speech. Scarily, she put some of the students on the spot, asking them to improvise. On arrival at Chartwell students were given a short guided tour of the house. This was a special experience. With no other members of the public around students could readily imagine what it must have been like to live there. The teams felt they were a little closer to the great man himself. We look forward to our teams competing in June
