8 May - Year 8 Cricket Tour to Bath

Over half term, and despite the potential for thunderstorms, the Year 8 cricket tourists set off for Bath in high spirits. On Saturday, they travelled to Thornbury and after losing the toss posted 189 thanks to 54 from Daniel Kenward, 23 from Ethan Nancekivell-Smith and 20 not out from Ayush Singh. This looked a good total until the opposition opening pair scored an impressive 123 before Daniel took 3 wickets and some tight bowling from Anirudh Gaikwad and Ameya Athawale restricted the opposition to 161, getting St Olave’s off to a winning start. The match on Sunday against Keynsham was cancelled due to the weather, but on Monday, with the weather improving, Year 8 played a 35 over game against Binfield CC. Batting first, St Olave’s scored 189, with Matthew Bird scoring 32 and Ameya 42. At 78-4 the opposition looked likely to win, with their captain into the 40s. However, he was bowled by Ayush, which set up a very tight finish with the opposition only needing 14 runs from 7 overs with 5 wickets in hand. Ameya, Ayush and Anirudh bowled very tight lines to restrict the opposition, and with the help of other, St Olave’s managed to win by 11 runs
