Olavians from Years 7 and 8 achieved another impressive set of results in the Junior Mathematical Challenge, which they sat earlier this term, with 118 Gold, 80 Silver and 32 Bronze certificates. Special mention must go to Year 8 as every student who sat the Challenge gained a high Bronze certificate score or better which is a unique achievement for any Olavian year cohort. Individual congratulations go to Joseph Fisher in Year 8 who solved all twenty-five problems correctly plus Ben Joshua Yip in Year 7 who achieved a best-in-year score. A particular cause of celebration is the record number of students qualifying for the follow-on rounds that will take place on Tuesday 12 June. An encouraging sixteen students have qualified for the prestigious Junior Mathematical Olympiad which involves seeking solutions to six fiendish problems, whilst a record further seventy students have qualified for the Junior Kangaroo, an international multiple choice competition. It continues to be encouraging to see how many Olavians enjoy the challenge of solving unfamiliar mathematical problems.
