A group of Year 13 students attended the The Wallace Collection – Naked Bodies Workshop on Tuesday 11th November. During the morning we were given a guided tour of the collection at Hertford House. The works were collected by Sir Richard Wallace and his family and was bequeathed to the British nation in 1897. Numerous paintings and statuettes were pointed out to the students who were later given the opportunity to walk freely around the galleries sketching some of these details. Those of particular interest were ‘The swing’ by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Perseus and Andromeda by Titian and ‘Mars and Venus surprised by Vulcan’ by François Boucher. After lunch our instructor led an informative life drawing class where students had the opportunity to sketch a female nude in various poses using charcoal, pen and pencil.
