In a thrilling final on Thursday afternoon the Year 8 Cricket Team were victorious in their bid to retain the Kent Plate title. They played local rivals Skinner’s at Rodmersham CC. St. Olave’s batted first and after Ameya Athawale’s quick-fire 15 we were reduce to 53-6 and all looked lost. Depth in batting has been a strength of the team and so it proved today – Anirudh Gaikwad’s excellent 43 from 36 balls, ably supported by Aryan Prashar (13) and Ethan Nancekivell-Smith (16no) ensured we ended on a competitive total of 128-9. St. Olave’s then bowled tightly at the beginning reducing Skinner’s to 11-3 after 5 overs with 3 wickets for Ameya. Strong batting from Skinner’s saw them come back into contention before Ayush Singh’s 2-13 from 4 overs really put them under pressure. Tremendous fielding throughout and a real desire to win eventually saw St. Olave’s win by 18 runs. Congratulations to the boys for retaining their title!
