VEX Robotics

Olavians teams are given the opportunity to take part in the VEX IQ competitions (yrs 7 - 8) and the VEX EDR competitions from Year 9.

The VEX Robotics Competitions bring STEM skills (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) to life by engaging students in hands-on, curriculum-based robotics engineering programmes. Students teams are tasked with designing and building a robot to compete against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. At the same time, students develop lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more. Regional then national tournaments are held throughout the year, culminating in the World Championships each April.

Throughout 2019 our VEX EDR Team 7975F  "Download Complete" competed in and won five tournaments, have been Tournament Skills Champions twice and been awarded the Design Award at two tournaments as well as the Think Award and Create Award.  Using their design and build skill and throughful tactics the team were crowned UK National Champions achieving a place at the World Championships.

Meanwhile our younger teams competed in the VEX IQ . In 2018 our Year 7 Team progresed to the Regional Championships having worked incredibly heard and shown great determination and team spirit. 

2019 brought new team members who have developed their understanding and skills, and who will now represent the school as our only Year 8 Team " The 4 Roboteers". They will be supporting three brand new teams from our new Year 7 cohort in September 2019.
