Gold Award
Once a student is 16 they can do their Gold DofE programme. No activities can be counted for this before their 16th birthday.
If they did a previous level, they can choose the same activity for Gold, but they need to show development in it.
They'll spend twelve months on their Volunteering section. For Physical and Skills they must spend twelve months on one and six months on the other - they decide which way round you do it.
Their expedition will be for four days and three nights (plus an acclimatisation day) and should take place in 'wild country'.
The big difference at Gold is they'll also do a Residential section - staying away from home for five days and four nights doing a shared activity with people they don't know. It's great fun and a real chance to do something different!
If they've jumped straight into your Gold DofE programme they’ll need to do a further six months either volunteering or whichever one of your physical or skills activities they spent the most time on.
For Gold, they'll need to do their programme for at least twelve months if they've achieved their Silver Award, or eighteen months if they've started at Gold level without doing their Silver - even if they've done Bronze.
