World Book Day
World Book Day was created by UNESCO in April 1995. It is currently commemorated in over 100 countries in the world, and its roots lie in the celebration of reading and books. In the UK it is normally observed on the first Thursday in March each year.
Events take place in the Main Library on the day in question.
It aims to encourage children to explore reading for pleasure and enables every child the opportunity to receive a book annually.
Each year a book token is made available to facilitate the purchase of a specially created book to coincide with the day and allow every child to have a book of their own.
These book tokens can be used in the major supermarkets, book shops (chain and independent), and can be redeemed from Thursday 15th February to Sunday 31st March. Digital tokens can be found here: https://www.worldbookday.com/download/58227/?tmstv=1705943759
