Salamanca AW2
Una aventura salmantina.
Year 10 enjoyed a 5-day adventure in the old city of Salamanca and a brief visit to Madrid. They walked the sandstone streets of the old city admiring the Plateresque architecture of the oldest university in Spain; they walked to the top of the second tallest cathedral in Spain; they visited the Bullfighting Museum where they learned about the training behind becoming a torero and the process of bullfighting; they visited the beautiful Casa Lis where they enjoyed admired the many objects of Art-Deco from the past 3 centuries; they had a healthy competition of bowling, ate local delicacies such as hornazo and jeta (among a copious amount of empanadas and Aquarius), and of course, got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch Spain win against France and move onto the finals of the World Cup 2026.
It was an absolute joy to see students connecting with Spanish culture, improving their fluency, and having, in their own words, the best time of their lives. The trip ended with a visit to the Santiago Bernabeu, the perfect way to end this magical adventure.
During this trip staff from Colegio Delibes, hotel and restaurant staff remarked on how wonderful and polite our students were which is credit to both their families and Saint Olave's staff. We hope that this trip has ignited their passion for languages even more and has made them thirsty to discover the wonderful world that lies beyond their horizon.
