Overview
Director of Sport - Mr A. Kenward
Inspiring Growth through Sport
Physical Education makes a rich contribution to a young person’s education due to its development of a pupil’s physical, intellectual, social and emotional abilities.
St. Olave’s PE department is strongly committed to developing all of these areas.Physical Education is a subject that should be enjoyed by all, regardless of ability.
The over-riding intention of the department is that every student should leave St. Olave’s with the desire, knowledge and skills to lead a healthy, active lifestyle
To support this over-arching intent, St. Olave’s Physical Education department has the following aims:
- Students will develop their skills, knowledge and understanding in a variety of activities
- Students understand how physical activity can help promote a healthy lifestyle
- Students will be able to assess their own, and others, performances and provide feedback
- Students understand how to work effectively as part of a team and as individuals
- Students adhere to the principles of fair play, respect, honesty and etiquette towards team-mates, opposition and officials
- Students understand how to exercise safely and to care for equipment
- Students appreciate that effort and engagement are as important as performance
- Students understand that Physical Education is a subject that should be enjoyed by all, regardless of ability
- Students develop the Olavian Characteristics through PESSPA
To facilitate these aims we offer a broad curriculum that gives pupils opportunities in a variety of activities and roles. Supporting this is a rich extra-curricular programme which caters for pupils of all abilities allowing everyone to further develop their performance.
