¡Bienvenidos!
At St Olave’s Grammar School we recently re-launched Spanish for year 7 and year 8 fast-track, and we are excited to see how our first GCSE cohort continue to make progress and perform in their public GCSE examinations.
It is no secret that Spanish has become incredibly popular in recent years. Being the second most spoken language in the world, knowing Spanish has become a great asset. Did you know that there are more native Spanish speakers than there are native English speakers and that there are 20 countries with Spanish as their official language?
Our Scheme of Work has been carefully planned to make sure students:
- learn about Spanish culture (not only from Spain but from other Spanish-speaking countries)
- acquire the four key skills (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking)
- gain a mastery of phonics and grammar
We encourage students across all year groups to also participate in a number of competitions, and we offer the opportunity to go on day trips to Spanish institutions in London. Furthermore, we have established a pen-pal programme with a partner school in Huesca, Spain, which all students at KS3 participate in. This programme then builds to form an exchange trip and residential (students may choose) at KS4 to Valencia, Spain. There is also a year 10 trip to Madrid and Salamanca, during Activity Week Two.
