Volunteering at Bromley Homeless Shelter

In addition to their fundraising efforts during last Term's "Festival" and "Cabaret" which in total raised over £7,400 (to be split between our two nominated charities - Bromley Homeless and Young Minds), we would like to acknowledge the efforts of our Head of Sixth Form, Mr Birtchnell and the Senior Prefect Team who volunteered at Bromley’s winter shelter last weekend.

This was a gratifying and eye-opening experience. It is often difficult to relate to the struggles of people we don’t know, so sitting down and talking with the guests was a great opportunity to better understand and empathise with the realities of homelessness.

The students came away having had some very engaging conversations and glad to have hopefully brightened the guests’ day. It is great to be able to contribute to such a local and positive cause, even if in only a small way, and they look forward to helping out again in the future. 

Later this term students are also planning a "sleep out" at school, to further highlight the issue of homelessness; watch this space for details!
